The Scholarships are usually offered, each year, by the School, however, this is pending availability of places in the desired Year group. The School reserves the right not to award all Scholarships each year.
Please note that sibling discounts are not applied in addition to the amount of the Scholarship award; they are in place of sibling discounts. Please also note that this examination is applicable only to candidates applying for a Scholarship at BMGS; the results are not transferrable to another school.
If applying for Music or Performing Arts Scholarships (Years 5, 7, 9 and 11), candidates must also attend an audition and if applying for a Visual Arts Scholarship (Years 9 and 11 only), candidates must submit a portfolio of original works when lodging their application.
Students already enrolled in Blue Mountains Grammar School are eligible to apply for all categories of Scholarship except Entrance Scholarships and the S S Wilkes Mathematics/Chess Scholarship.
Scholarships, once awarded, are in place for the duration of a student’s study at Blue Mountains Grammar School and are subject to annual review.
In addition to the general Entrance Scholarships for Years 5, 7, 9 and 11, The Blue Mountains Grammar School Foundation offers The Tom Carr-Boyd Memorial Scholarship For Outdoor Education. This Scholarship is open to students entering Year 11 only, and is applied for whilst a candidate is in Year 10. This Scholarship is also open to both internal and external students.
All candidates who reach the short-list are interviewed by the Headmaster. Students awarded a Music, Performing Arts, Visual Arts or STEM Scholarship must elect Music, Drama, Visual Arts or STEM subjects, respectively, in their courses of study throughout secondary school, including as one of their HSC courses.
Shortlisted candidates applying for the Tom Carr-Boyd Outdoor Education Scholarship, or the S S Wilkes Mathematics/Chess Scholarship must also attend an interview with the benefactors of these Scholarships.
